Fallen Start Devlog #1

Hello Hello! I am finally updating our game page.

A lot has changed since the initial post I did on our page. We have become more knowledgeable on what exactly to update and I have figured out how often I am going to post on our page! I will be posting weekly dev log updates on all things changed or just sharing concept art depending on what is ready to be shown in that week.

So with this being our first official Devlog I would like to go over what exactly this project is about and what we have accomplished so far to give you a better feel for what we are creating and a hopefully peak your interests in our project.

The project is now called Fallen Star, it is a turn based RPG with a unique spin on it. You play as Ymir, a character who uses Cardmancy to explore the vast world to lift a curse put on their grandmother. You will find vast amounts of interesting characters, enemies and most importantly allies!  Through your adventure you not only will be discovering long forgotten tomes, ancient ruins, you will be discovering who Ymir is as a character, as they find their place in this world.

Information on terms and mechanics -

What is Cardmancy?

Cardmancy is a long forgotten style of magic. Unlike Wizards or Sorcerers using a Staff or a Tome to cast their spells, you will be using a Spell Deck. With this you can wield 4 different types of elements that you can craft, Earth, Fire, Water, and Wind. Each of these cards has their own unique tarot card artwork associated with them to give a special flare to the element.

What are the unique things you can do with Cardmancy?

Outside of combat you can use materials that you find in combat or buy from shops to create the 4 basic elements. However in combat Ymir can fuse 2 different elements together to make a whole new card! This card not only will have a unique style of tarot card art, but will have a completely new effect associated with it!
For example : If you fuse Fire and Wind  together it makes Wildfire. Instead of dealing set fire or wind damage this will do a DoT to all enemies.

Ymir is also sometimes to curious for their own good, through trial and error they have learned to combine magic with the items they have learned to make from the shop she runs with her grandma!

For example: You can use Fire on a Potion to turn it from a healing effect to a Bottle of Fire Resistance

There are 10 cards in total including the base 4 elements, and the fusion mentioned above. You can easily keep track of what cards you have discovered through the pause menu which has different tabs for Inventory, Settings, Card Index and Crafting.

Through the Card Index you will see and artwork of cards you have discovered on the right page, and if you ever get confused on what materials you need to craft a card or what elements to fuse a card. On the left page will be a bigger display of the card with any materials on what you need to craft it, and what cards you need to fuse it. Not only that on that same page it will give you a detailed effect of what exactly the card does just incase you forget or need more info on the effect!

Crafting can be learned from the 3 tutors in the base village. We have one for Seed Crafting, Card Crafting,  and Item Crafting. These 3 tutors will all go over these 3 different mechanics if the player chooses to. They will also give some items to player to try crafting out all on their own regardless if you view the tutorial or not!

We will also be displaying a lot of quirky characters and fun characters that we hope you will find as charming as we do. Along with our unique soft chibi visuals you can enjoy that same effect on battle effects and various form of cute little animations.

I will be posting a Devlog every Friday around 10pm Est time, and at the end of each Devlog I will give a bit of info to what you can expect from the next one and a bit of future info! So next weeks Devlog will have more on the Card Index and Crafting with videos and more descriptions on what they are  mechanics behind them.

Please comment any feedback as long as it is constructive and not harmful or attacking.

Looking forward to next week!
